-UPDATE #1- MIDDLESEX COUNTY OPP INVESTIGATING SHOOTING INCIDENT
Accused Identified
(ONEIDA NATION OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) - Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Oneida Nation Police investigating a shooting incident on Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation.
On September 14, 2025, at 12:59 am, members of the Oneida Nation Police, Munsee-Delaware First Nation Police and Middlesex County OPP were dispatched to Oneida Road, Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation for the report of a break and enter.
Officers arrived on scene and located an individual that had suffered a gunshot wound. They were subsequently transported to hospital by Oneida Nation Paramedic Service to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Oneida Nation Police, in partnership with the Middlesex OPP Crime Unit have charged Xander ELIJAH, a 26-year-old of Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation under the Criminal Code with:
- Attempt to commit murder using firearm
- Poss of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Uttering Threats - Damage Property
- Failure to comply with undertaking
- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
The accused was held for bail.
Oneida Nation Police, in partnership with the Middlesex OPP Crime Unit are continuing to investigate this incident.
