-UPDATE #1- OPP RESPONDS TO ARMED INDIVIDUAL, SHELTER-IN-PLACE LIFTED

(KETTLE AND STONY POINT FIRST NATION, ON) - The Anishinabek Police Service (APS), with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), is investigating an assault that occurred in Kettle and Stony Point First Nation.

On October 4, 2025, just before 9:00 am, a member of the Anishinabek Police Service attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Middle Road, resulting in the driver failing to stop.

The officer located the individual, and during the interaction with the driver, the officer was assaulted with a weapon. The individual then fled the scene on foot, prompting a brief shelter-in-place order.

The officer was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the request of APS, Lambton OPP were called to assist with the investigation.

Police located the individual, and they were taken into police custody without further incident. The shelter-in-place order was subsequently lifted.

As a result of the investigation, an individual from Kettle and Stony Point First Nation has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Aggravated assault of peace officer
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

The accused was held pending a bail hearing and has been remanded into custody.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Lambton OPP Crime Unit.

A publication ban is in effect. To protect the integrity of the investigation and those involved, no further information will be released.
