Victim Deceased, One Person Arrested

(KENORA, ON) - Police have confirmed a missing Kenora resident is deceased, and one person has been arrested and charged in connection with the investigation.

On Sunday, October 26, 2025, Mekhi PELLY (SCOTT), age 21 of Grassy Narrows First Nation, was reported missing to the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). He was last seen between Friday, October 10, and Sunday, October 12, 2025, in Kenora.

Following an investigation, the victim was confirmed to be deceased. Search efforts continue to locate his remains.

As a result of the investigation, Terrance CHERRY, age 24 of Kenora, was arrested and charged with:

  • Indignity to a dead body, contrary to section 182(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Monday, November 3, 2025.

The Kenora OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Assistance is being provided by the OPP Canine Unit, the Emergency Response Team and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. The Treaty Three Police Service, the Kenora Makwa Patrol and community members are also assisting with the search.
