-UPDATE #1- SHELTER-IN-PLACE ORDER IN EFFECT IN OHSWEKEN SIX NATIONS FIRST NATION
Shelter-In-Place Lifted
(OHSWEKEN SIX NATIONS FIRST NATION, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising that the shelter-in-place in effect for the area of Onondaga Rd. and Sixth Line in the Ohsweken Six Nations First Nation community has been lifted.
The shelter-in-place was issued in response to an incident earlier this morning involving an armed suspect. A heavy police presence continues while Six Nations Police Service continues with their investigation. There is believed to be no threat to public safety.
As part of the initial response, area residents in the affected area were advised to follow shelter-in-place precautions, including:
- Seeking immediate shelter if outdoors
- Locking doors and windows and remaining indoors
- Closing curtains and minimizing visibility; and
- Following all directions from officers on scene
We recognize the emotional impact that a shelter-in-place advisory can have. The OPP thanks the public for their cooperation, understanding and vigilance.
