WELLINGTON OPP INVESTIGATING DISTRACTION THEFT IN FERGUS
OPP Seeking Public Assistance
(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - Police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects in a recent distraction theft incident.
On November 25, 2025, at approximately 5:30 pm, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a distraction theft in Fergus.
At approximately 2:30 pm the same day, the victim attended a grocery store on St. David Street North in Fergus, where two male suspects were observed following them. The victim believes their debit card PIN was compromised during checkout.
The victim returned home, followed by the suspects. One suspect approached the victim in their driveway and engaged in conversation, claiming he had lost his family dog and requested assistance in locating it.
While the victim was distracted, a second suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and stole the victim’s debit and credit cards. Shortly after, the victim received multiple notifications of declined withdrawal attempts and one successful withdrawal of $400.
Members of the Wellington County OPP are continuing to investigate this incident and are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects and vehicle involved.
Suspect 1 is described as:
- Male
- Brown
- Between 5’10” and 6’ tall
- Average build
Suspect 2 is described as:
- Male
- Brown
- Approximately 5’9” tall
- Slim build
Vehicle is described as:
- Chevy Malibu
- Dark Navy Blue
- 4-door
- 2021 or newer
