YOUTH CHARGED IN INTIMATE IMAGE INVESTIGATION

FROM: Bancroft Detachment

(BANCROFT, ON) - The Bancroft Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a youth following an investigation into the non-consensual distribution of an intimate image involving another young person.

The investigation began in March 2025 when police were made aware of a sexually explicit video being circulated among youth. The image, which involved a person under the age of 18, was shared without the individual’s knowledge or consent.

Police identified those involved and as a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old individual has been charged under the Criminal Code with distribution of child pornography.

The identity of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The OPP is reminding all members of the public, particularly youth and caregivers, that sharing intimate images without consent is a serious criminal offence. These actions can cause significant emotional harm and carry lifelong legal consequences.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak with young people about safe online behaviour and the importance of consent in all interactions.

If you have been impacted by the sharing of private images or suspect unlawful activity, contact police or a trusted adult.
