Police investigating threat at Lively District Secondary School

UPDATE

As a result of the investigation, officers have identified the youth believed to be responsible for the message written in a bathroom at Lively District Secondary School.

The student has been arrested and charged with Uttering Threats and Mischief – Interrupt or Interfere with Lawful Use, Enjoyment, or Operation of Property. Based on the investigation and in consultation with administration and the youth’s parents, the youth has been referred to a diversion program under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The identity of the youth is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, therefore no further information related to the youth will be provided.

ORIGINAL

Just before 2:00 pm on May 29, 2024, officers were dispatched to Lively District Secondary School in relation to a threats complaint.

Prior to police being called, a student located a message written in a bathroom at the school warning of a school shooting on Thursday. The student notified administration who contacted police.

Officers are actively investigating the matter to determine the credibility of the threat. Officers are working with administration, staff and students to conduct a thorough investigation. The safety of students, staff and our community is our top priority.

There will be an increased visible police presence at Lively District Secondary School on Thursday, May 30, 2024, to ensure public safety and to support students and staff.
