Police Presence - Stabbing on Desloges Road
UPDATE
Just after 11:00 am today, August 21 st, 2024, members of our Emergency Response Unit, Integrated Crime Team, Patrol Operations with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police located the suspect on the Highway 17 bypass.
The 40-year old man of Greater Sudbury was arrested without incident and charged with Attempt Murder contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. His name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process. Additional charges are currently pending.
The man was taken to GSPS headquarters and will be held in Police custody overnight. He will attend bail court tomorrow, August 22 nd, 2024, to answer to the charge.
ORIGINAL
Shortly before 11:00 pm on August 20th, 2024, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received a 911 call regarding a Weapons complaint in the area of Desloges Road in Greater Sudbury. Information received was that two men were involved in an altercation, resulting in one of the men sustaining serious injuries. The man believed to be responsible fled the scene prior to Police arrival.
Upon arrival, Officers located a man who had sustained serious injuries as a result of the altercation. The victim was transported to hospital by City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services where he remains in stable condition.
Police immediately set up containment of the area. Members of the GSPS Emergency Response Unit, Marine Unit and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) K9 Unit attended the scene to conduct a ground search in efforts to locate the suspect. The Ontario Provincial Police helicopter and GSPS Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) were also in the area conducting an aerial search.
Police remain on scene and community members are asked to avoid the area as investigative efforts continue.
The incident has been assigned to Detectives in our Criminal Investigations Division.
This is a targeted and isolated incident as the two individuals involved are known to each other.
