The nose, knows – K9 Roy assists detectives with vehicle search & seizure of over $67,700 in drugs

K9 RoyIn the Spring of 2023, Detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) working in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team began an investigation into an individual from Southern Ontario who was believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in Greater Sudbury.

Around 9:45 pm on June 27, 2023, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service Emergency Response Unit (ERU) along with members of the Integrated Crime Section (ICS) conducted a high-risk vehicle stop on Highway 69 in Greater Sudbury. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were taken into police custody without incident.

As a result of the arrests, a search of the vehicle was conducted. Detectives from the DEU completed an initial search of the vehicle locating a quantity of cocaine, fentanyl, morphine pills, oxycodone tablets and cash. GSPS K-9 Roy (Royal) conducted a secondary search locating additional large sums of cocaine and fentanyl.

In total, officers seized 125 grams of fentanyl, 175 grams of cocaine and $1,000 in cash. The estimated street value of the drugs is over $67,700.

28-year-old, Rosanna Ilievska and 31-year-old, O’Neil Mills, both from Southern Ontario have been charged with the following offences under the Controlled drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x4
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

Both individuals appeared in bail court on June 28, 2023 and have since been remanded into custody.

The OPP-led provincial Gun and Gangs Enforcement initiative is comprised of twenty-three municipal, provincial and federal law enforcement agencies who co-operatively work to enhance public safety and effectively disrupt street gang networks and their associated criminal activities.
