UPDATE - Police Requesting Assistance regarding Assault Investigation at Hanmer Skate Park

**UPDATE 2**

Today, August 18th, 2020, the 42-year old man has been arrested for the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Assault
  • Party to the Offence – Assault
  • Counselling – Assault

In addition, our criminal investigation has determined that the man was in possession of a tire iron during the time of the incident. As a result, the accused has also been arrested for the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Weapons Dangerous
  • Assault with a Weapon

One girl, who was determined to be actually 12 years of age, was cautioned for her involvement in the incident. The second girl, 13 years of age, was arrested, cautioned and will participate in the Youth Referral Program.

The Youth Referral Program was developed in partnership with the John Howard Society of Sudbury to address the requirement of Officers to consider referrals to community agencies as an option to a formal court process as set out in the principles and objectives of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The Youth Referral Program is designed to provide meaningful consequences for young persons who commit criminal offences and is geared primarily for first time offenders.

The two 13-year old girls and 42-year old man have been identified and have been in contact with Police. Injuries sustained by the two 13-year old girls are minor. The investigation remains active and ongoing through our Criminal Investigations Division.

**ORIGINAL**

On or about the 22nd of July 2020 an assault occurred in the skate park in Hanmer involving two 13 year old girls and a male party in his 40’s. The assault occurred during daylight hours and was witnessed by several bystanders and video recorded.

The video has recently been shared on social media outlets including “Spotted in Chelmsford”.

We would like everyone to know that the incident is now being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division. This is now and active and ongoing investigation.
