Update - Vehicle Located and Driver Identified - Requesting the Public’s Assistance – Motor Vehicle Collision on Notre Dame Avenue – Fail to Remain

**UPDATE**

The white Mitsubishi has been located and the driver of the vehicle has been identified.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and charges are to be determined upon the conclusion of the investigation.

**ORIGINAL**

Last night, on Thursday, October 5, 2017, around 10:00 pm, Greater Sudbury Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Notre Dame Avenue south of Lasalle Boulevard in Greater Sudbury.

Upon arrival it was discovered that a white Mitsubishi car had been travelling down Notre Dame Avenue towards downtown when it struck a large black dog that had escaped from its house and yard and ran across the road. The collision occurred near the entrance to Pioneer Manor.

The collision was heard by several witnesses who saw the motor vehicle stop and then accelerate away from the scene. The dog collapsed on the road and was safely removed by the witnesses and the dog’s owner. The dog succumbed to its injuries at the scene. 

The motor vehicle received extensive front-end damage to the front left side. Debris from the motor vehicle was collected at the scene.

The driver of the motor vehicle did not remain at the scene and did not provide any identifiers or render any assistance or aid to the dog that briefly suffered and then passed away.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is requesting the Public’s assistance in identifying the driver in this incident and locating the motor vehicle.
