CRIME PREVENTION - A SHARED COMMITMENT

Crime Prevention Week November 2-8, 2025

(PEMBROKE, ON) - The week of November 2-8, 2025, is Crime Prevention Week in Ontario. The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is highlighting community safety programs that help keep our residents safe. The programs showcase the combined efforts of police, municipalities and citizens working together to address concerns, create strategies and decrease crime throughout the UOV OPP Detachment area.

“Community safety is everyone’s responsibility. Join the conversation and learn how you can take part and make a difference.” - Inspector Stephan Neufeld, UOV OPP

The Community Watch Program is a community-based crime prevention program that increases community safety and deters crime by inspiring residents to look out for their neighbour, and their neighbour’s property. The program is active in the City of Pembroke and interested residents can inquire about joining by emailing pembrokecwatch@gmail.com

SafeGuard is an OPP program offered at the UOV OPP that offers property security reviews for homes and small businesses to help prevent and reduce property crime victimization. It is a public awareness and education initiative where specially trained officers conduct on-site assessments and provide recommendations for improving security.

The Lock-It-Or-Lose-It Program and Operation Identification property marking initiative, with engravers available on loan from the Pembroke Library, are further examples of crime prevention strategies within our Detachment area.
