(RENFREW, ON) - The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) participated in a national four-day traffic safety initiative “Operation Impact”. The initiative took place over the Thanksgiving long weekend. Renfrew OPP officers conducted focused patrols from October 10 to October 13 with special attention being paid to the “Big 4” which are the four main causal factors in motor vehicle collision deaths on OPP patrolled roadways. The “Big 4” are distracted driving, speeding/aggressive driving, impaired driving and lack of occupant restraint.
Over the course of the traffic safety initiative Renfrew OPP officers laid several charges including 42 speeding charges, and seven impaired driving charges. During the weekend campaign officers also responded to over 297 calls for service.
