LOST HIKERS LOCATED SAFE ON TRAIL IN NORTH MIDDLESEX


(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) - Lost hikers located safe on North Middlesex trail utilizing What3Words app.

On September 1, 2025, at 3:56 pm, members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched a popular hiking trail at 101 Elm Tree Drive in the Municipality of North Middlesex, for the report of hikers lost on the trail. 

Investigation revealed, two hikers took to the trail and became lost.

Utilizing the What3Words App, police were able to locate and help guide the hikers from the trail back to their vehicle.

There were no injuries reported.

What3Words is a free app that allows an easy way to describe any precise location with or without Wi-Fi. It has divided the world into a grid of 3 metre squares and given each square a unique address made from three random words.

There are many amazing hiking trails throughout Middlesex County and hikers are reminded to be prepared by:

  • Learn the difficulty of the terrain
  • Know the distance
  • Ensure your cell phone is fully charged
  • Check the weather conditions and dress accordingly
  • Let a loved one or a friend know where you are going and the anticipated time of the journey
  • pack a snack, water, a small survival kit and navigation tools
  • And most importantly, know your limits
