(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) - The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning the public following a report of a scam targeting local residents.
On August 22, 2025, at approximately 11:00 pm, the Wellington OPP received a report of an attempted fraud, which took place at a residence in Erin. An unknown suspect, posing as an agent from the Canada Revenue Agency, attended the home and presented the complainant a letter claiming that a family member had a company registered in their name and owed $25,000 in taxes.
Fortunately, the complainant quickly recognized the fraudulent nature of the claim, declined to engage with the suspect, asked them to leave the property, and contacted police.
